Under § 35a EStG your income tax is reduced by 20 percent of the labour cost: for household-related services (haushaltsnahe Dienstleistungen) by at most 4,000 EUR, for tradesman services (Handwerkerleistungen) by at most 1,200 EUR.

Only the labour cost counts, not the material. You need an invoice and payment to the account of the provider of the service; cash payments do not count. The work must be done in your household.
